ABOUT CLARITY HYPERBARICS
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Clarity Hyperbarics in Des Moines is simple in function, complex in science, and impactful in its results. With so many healthcare options in todays world, we are committed offering a serene environment allowing the body to heal itself from the inside out.
WHAT IS A DIVE?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy was initially built off the research done by doctors within the military on divers. At its inception, it was used to help treat decompression sickness, otherwise known as “the bends”. Hyperbaric medicine has held on to that model of care, calling each session a dive.
DO I FEEL ANYTHING
WHILE DIVING?
While descending in your dive you may feel some slight pressure on the ears, similar to take off on an airplane. Once you are up to pressure, you feel nothing other than relaxation.
ARE THEIR OTHER WAYS
TO GET THIS BENIFIT?
Another way to achieve this level of pressure with 95-100% pure oxygen would be scuba diving. Our chambers operate at 1.3 ATM or 4 psi above normal. This pressure is similar to diving down to 12 ft. deep and just sitting there for an extended period with an oxygen tank giving you air. We are able to achieve this without the need to get wet or suit up into an oxygen tank with our chamber.
Yes and No. Airplanes are giant chambers, but they are actually hypobaric chambers. Planes pressurize to approximately .75 ATM, which means that they take pressure off the body, acting as a vacuum. This means that while flying you are under decreased pressure, and are breathing in less oxygen every breath. The ear drums act as, well, a drum. That being said they can be stimulated from a decrease or an increase in pressure. That is why your ears “pop” on planes. Think of your ear drum as a big bass drum carried by the marching band. The decrease in pressure acts as the left hand hitting the drum, and while under hyperbarics, the right hand strikes the drum. The same noise is heard, or sensation felt, just from opposite stimuli.
ARE AIRPLANES GIANT
HYPERBARIC CHAMBERS?
That means after you fly, your body has experienced a decrease in the amount of oxygen needed, and it would be a great time to undergo a hyperbaric oxygen treatment at Clarity.
“Giving more oxygen is not alternative medicine, it is sound science and common sense. There is no substitute for oxygen.”
