CONDITIONS HYPERBARICS CAN HELP: DES MOINES

AUTISM

HBOT is extremely effective for autistic patients due to its mechanism of injury. Autism is a result of wounding insults to the brain combined with inflammation. Benefits include improvements in social deficits, repetitive behaviors, language, intestinal, sensory, and emotional problems. According to research, 80% of autistic patients will see results

Cerebral palsy

HBOT is a great way to improve the quality of life in an individual with Cerebral palsy when standard medical practices aren’t working. Research shows that 90% of patients with cerebral palsy will see results. Hundreds of children with CP have been treated with little to no side effects.

Drowning or Anoxic Brain Injury

The most effective way to treat an individual with an injury associated with drowning is with immediate hyperbaric treatment. Often times, drowning injuries are considered untreatable by western medicine, but with HBOT we can see some results. That being said, drowning injuries are considered the hardest to treat.

Migraine Headache

Outside of chiropractic care, HBOT has been shown to help those who suffer from migraine headaches. Hyperbarics help those who suffer from migraines as a result of a brain injury. During an active migraine, hyperbarics can help constrict the dilated blood vessels that cause a pulsing sensation.

Mild Cognitive Impairment and Dementia

HBOT has been proven to help treat the symptoms of dementia and even reverse decline for many patients. This is explained by hyperbarics treating the underlying brain wounds responsible for the cognitive decline.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

HBOT can help treat the wounds caused by MS. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment has been proven to reduce symptoms, stabilize the progression and increase overall health and wellness. Most MS patients under HBOT experience increase in mobility and energy, while reducing urinary incontinence, and involuntary movements.

Plastic Surgery or Cosmetic Surgery

After plastic surgery, nearly all patients experience agonizing side effects like bruising, swelling and pain. This surgery inflicts wounds to the body. HBOT is a treatment for wounds. HBOT can help patients heal after a surgical procedure due to its wound healing properties.

Recovery from surgery

While surgery can be necessary, it does cause wounding of your tissue. This wound can result in discomfort, pain and other effects like swelling and inflammation. HBOT for surgical recovery is effective at reducing symptoms and to heal more quickly. Hyperbaric oxygen treatment at our Johnston clinic also can reduce the likelihood of infection.

Sports injury

HBOT can help treat sports injuries. When delivered immediately after injury, oxygen acts on the injured tissue to repair the wound and decrease inflammation. Common injuries we see are muscle strains, concussions and fractured bones.

Sports Recovery/performance

HBOT is most effective immediately following and intense workout like sprinting, high percentage weight lifting, speed workout and other max effort activities. When used properly, recovery time is accelerated and performance can improve. As a side note, Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is not a replacement for other forms of recovery like chiropractic and proper nutrition, but is another way to perform at your best.

stroke

After a stroke has occured, Hyperbaric oxygen therapy goes to work on the affected brain tissue to salvage the tissue and restore it back to proper function. Research shows that under HBOT care, patients can generally see a partial or complete reversal of neurological deficit. This is most likely if HBOT is administered as soon as possible after the injury.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is THE ONLY therapy that directly treats the underlying disease processes of TBI which is decreased oxygen and decreased blood flow to the brian. HBOT can also decrease the chances of mortality after a TBI. For patients with persistent post-concussion syndrome, HBOT is the best-known effective therapy in evidence based clinical practice.

The above listed conditions are just a sampling of conditions that hyperbaric medicine can help with.
